Site Preparation
We mulch brush and small trees off the building spot and the drive, and leave the mature trees you want. Then we grade a rough pad with our compact track loader.

Your ground is rough and uneven, and water sits in the low spots. Land grading cuts down the high spots and fills the low ones, so the surface comes out smooth and level. Paulin Land Solutions does land grading and backfill with a compact track loader. We serve Waukesha, North Prairie and the area about 40 miles around.
Grading often follows land clearing around Waukesha, and our track loader does both jobs. We work as a grading contractor on home sites and small acreage. Big cut-and-fill earthwork and engineered grading plans belong to an excavation contractor and an engineer. Call or text (262) 527-7619 to talk about your ground.
Tell us about the land you want cleared or graded and where it is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Once forestry mulching takes the brush down, the ground under it can still be lumpy. We smooth and level it with the same track loader, so you can put the space to use. That might be a yard or a spot for a new building.
Ruts and low spots get filled, and the humps get cut down, so rain has a way to run off. When a job needs more material, a supplier delivers the fill, and we spread and grade it. A driveway or a parking pad falls under our gravel driveway work.
Backfill is the soil that goes back in around a new foundation or into a trench. Another contractor digs the basement or the trench, and the work inside it gets done first. Then we push the backfill in with the track loader and grade it. On a wooded lot, site prep before the build comes first and clears the building spot.
Your builder, or the trade that dug the trench, says when it is ready for backfill. If digging exposed a buried utility line, it gets checked before any backfill goes in. The one-call center's guide says a damaged line stays uncovered until its owner makes the repair.
For a new home, the last step is the slope. Wisconsin's Uniform Dwelling Code calls for the finished grade to slope away from the house. The rate is at least half an inch per foot for at least 10 feet. We grade the backfill so rain runs away from the walls.
Wisconsin's one-call law counts grading as excavation, so buried lines get marked first. Diggers Hotline, at 811, needs at least three working days' notice, and weekends and state holidays do not count. Privately owned lines, such as some propane lines, may not get marked through that call. The one-call center keeps a list of private locating companies for those.
Waukesha County's permit guide covers grading in the towns, outside the cities and villages. There, a county stormwater permit applies once grading disturbs 3,000 square feet or digs and fills 400 cubic yards. The county's Parks and Land Use department issues it. Inside a city or a village, that community's own office answers the permit question, and we point you there.
Near a lake or a stream, the county's shoreland rules can apply as well. In the towns, they reach 1,000 feet from a lake and 300 feet from a river or stream. A low spot that is part of a wetland falls under state rules before any fill goes in. The Wisconsin DNR answers that question.

Call or text (262) 527-7619, or send the form. Tell us where the land is and what you want done with it.
We look at the land before we price it. The thickness of the brush and the lay of the ground shape the plan.
We put the quote in writing and spell out what it covers. You decide once you have it in hand.
We set a start date with you and bring in the compact track loader. The mulching head grinds the brush and small trees where they stand.
Where the job calls for it, we grade the ground once the brush is down. The land is open and ready for its next use.
