Forestry Mulching
A mulching head on our compact track loader grinds brush and small trees into mulch where they stand. The mulch stays on your land as ground cover, and the big trees you pick stay standing.

Delafield sits on the southwest shore of Nagawicka Lake, and Lapham Peak rises just south of downtown. A glacier shaped this ground, so many lots roll over hills and drop toward the water. On wooded lots, buckthorn and brush fill the space under the big trees. Some owners can no longer see the lake from the house or get down the slope to the shore.
Delafield is part of the Paulin Land Solutions service area, which runs about 40 miles around North Prairie. Our land clearing work here runs on a compact track loader with a mulching head. That covers forestry mulching and buckthorn removal on wooded lots and acreage, and the mulch stays on the ground. Call or text (262) 527-7619, and we look at the job and put the quote in writing.

The DNR says the Lapham Peak area took shape about 10,000 years ago, when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. The peak's 45-foot tower stands on the highest point in Waukesha County, 1,233 feet above sea level. The Ice Age Trail crosses the city, and the peak sits just outside the city limits.
The federal soil survey maps Fox silt loam under nearly a third of the city. Casco loam covers many of the slopes. Both soils sit over sandy outwash from the glacier, and both drain well. The survey lists oaks and sugar maple among their native trees.
Under those trees, buckthorn and honeysuckle often take over the understory. Brush clearing mulches that layer down and leaves the mature trees standing. A tree service handles any big tree that has to come down.
Nagawicka Lake covers about 980 acres and reaches 90 feet at its deepest, per the DNR. The lake sits on the Bark River, and the river runs through the city. The DNR notes a lot of home and cottage development around the lake.
The DNR also lists shoreline disturbance and stormwater among the lake's major issues. On a lake lot, we mulch brush and buckthorn to open a view or a path to the water. The mulch stays on the slope as ground cover.
Shore work comes with rules. Cattails and wet ground at the water's edge are wetland questions for the DNR before any work starts. FEMA maps flood zones along the Bark River, and the city sends floodplain questions to its engineer.
Inside the city limits, the City of Delafield runs its own erosion control permit. The application sits with the Public Works forms and asks how many acres the work disturbs. The applicant agrees to follow Chapter 23 of the city code. The form warns that fees double when work starts before the permit is issued.
When the city asks for a grading plan, its checklist calls for the tree lines and the limits of clearing. A professional signs and stamps that plan, and mulching then opens the ground inside those limits. Work that disturbs an acre or more can also need a stormwater permit from the DNR.
The city's building inspector takes calls about a new home, a boat house, a deck or a fence. Most Delafield residents have private wells, per the city. A private line, such as the one from a well, is the owner's to locate. Wisconsin law says to contact Diggers Hotline at 811 at least three working days before you dig.
Delafield had 7,185 people at the 2020 Census. The median year built for homes here is 1985. About 45 percent of homes went up before 1980, and about a quarter in 2000 or later.
Building has picked up. The city issued permits for 8 new single-family homes in 2021 and 56 in 2024, per the Census Bureau. A wooded building lot needs the brush off the house site and the drive. Site preparation opens that ground so the builder and the surveyor can see it.
Frost is hard on drives here. The soil survey names frost action as a limit for local roads on about three quarters of the city's land. We regrade and re-crown gravel driveways so water runs off, and we spread gravel a supplier delivers.
