Forestry Mulching
A mulching head on our compact track loader grinds brush and small trees into mulch where they stand. The mulch stays on your land as ground cover, and the big trees you pick stay standing.

Homes line Little Muskego Lake and Lake Denoon, but much of Muskego is still open country. Big Muskego Lake and its marsh spread across the center and southeast of the city. Between the lakes, fence rows and back acres fill in with brush and buckthorn when nobody keeps after them. On a lake lot, the same brush climbs the slope and hides the water.
Paulin Land Solutions works across Waukesha County and Southeast Wisconsin, and Muskego is part of that service area. We run a compact track loader with a mulching head and a brush hog. Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into a mulch layer that stays on the ground. Call or text (262) 527-7619, and we will look at the job and put the quote in writing.

Little Muskego Lake covers 506 acres in the north-central part of the city. Lake Denoon covers 162 acres in the southwest. The city's plan notes that many parcels around the lakes are small, with tight building pads.
Brush on these lots grows up along the lot lines and down the slope to the shore. Brush clearing with a mulching head opens the view to the water and leaves the big trees standing.
Creeks tie the lakes together, and Muskego Creek carries Little Muskego Lake's water into Big Muskego Lake. Near water or a wetland, the city asks for a Land Disturbance Permit for disturbing ground of any size. Its Engineering Department issues that permit, and wetland work can also need one from the Wisconsin DNR. We point you to both offices before the machine goes in.
The city counts about a third of its land as farm field or open space. Rural lots of two acres or more sit among the fields, away from the sewered neighborhoods. A field left alone for a few seasons goes to goldenrod and box elder saplings.
Brush hogging with the rotary cutter on our track loader cuts tall grass and light brush back down. Thicker brush and bigger saplings call for the mulching head instead.
Buckthorn is the invasive shrub that takes over fence rows and woodlots across Southeast Wisconsin. Buckthorn removal with the mulching head knocks a thicket to the ground and lets light back in. The city's conservation staff, who manage 28 city sites, work to reduce invasive plants so native plants can grow. On private land, follow-up cutting or mowing keeps buckthorn sprouts down after mulching.
Much of Muskego sits on silt loam and silty clay loam, with muck and marsh in the low ground. Ozaukee silt loam is the most common soil the NRCS maps inside the city. The NRCS rates more than half of the city's land very limited for local roads. Low strength and frost action are the reasons it names most.
A gravel drive on this ground can rut in a wet spring and heave after a hard freeze. Gravel driveways hold up better on a graded base with a crown that sheds water to the sides. We grade the base, then spread and crown the gravel a supplier delivers.
Frozen ground carries a track loader over soft spots that could rut in spring. That matters on the Ashkum and Blount soils, which the NRCS rates poorly or somewhat poorly drained. We look at the ground and set the timing with you.
Census permit counts show 26 to 36 new single-family homes a year in Muskego from 2021 to 2025. The city's 2025 housing study says much of the land left for new homes has a rural character. On a rural lot, brush and small trees often stand where the house and the drive will go.
For site preparation, we mulch brush and small trees off the building site and the drive. The mature trees the landowner and the builder want to keep stay standing. We can also grade a rough pad or backfill around a new foundation after another contractor digs it.
Grading counts as digging under Wisconsin's one-call law. Anyone who digs, a homeowner included, must contact Diggers Hotline (811) at least three working days ahead. Private lines, like one to a shed or a well, are the property owner's to locate.
